Getting started
What is TalkTalkType?
A voice to text app for Mac that lives in the menu bar. Hold ⌥Space, speak, release — and cleaned-up text lands in whatever app you were working in. There is no new editor window to learn, and your allowance is counted in dictations rather than words.
Which apps can I type into?
Anywhere you can type — ChatGPT, Claude, Slack, Mail, browser forms, Notes, and more. By default the result types itself into the focused field; or it can wait on your clipboard.
What do I need to get started?
macOS 26 or later, a Google account, and Microphone permission. Pick any installer on the Download page (one-line script or DMG), sign in once from your browser, and you're set.
Why does it ask for Accessibility permission?
To type the result into the focused app for you, TalkTalkType simulates ⌘V under the hood. If you prefer clipboard-only delivery, it works without this permission. Grant it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Ready to start dictating? Install TalkTalkType and sign in with Google.
Privacy and limits
Is my voice or my text stored?
No. Audio goes to the speech provider for transcription only, and TalkTalkType does not store audio or transcript text by default. Your sign-in token stays in the Mac Keychain. Full details on the Privacy page.
How much can I dictate on the free plan?
30 dictations a week and a 15-minute voice-time pool, recordings up to 60 seconds each, on unlimited Macs. We count dictations, not words — say as much as you like in each one. Whichever allowance runs out first ends the week; unused allowances don't roll over, they reset every week. See every plan on the Pricing page.
Do you count words?
No. TalkTalkType counts dictations, not words, so there is no per-word limit — a take is one dictation whether you say five words or two hundred, false starts included. What bounds a take is its length: 60 seconds on Free and Plus, 2 minutes on Pro and Max.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Yes. Every plan runs on unlimited Macs — there's no device limit. You can see your registered devices in Account.
How do referral rewards work?
During the friend beta, a friend who claims your link gets Plus for a month — and once they finish their first dictation, you get a month too, up to three months total. Details on the Referral page.
Fixing problems
The text never appeared in my app.
Check Accessibility permission first — direct delivery needs it. A few apps block simulated ⌘V entirely; in those, switch to clipboard delivery and place the text yourself.
Why does my dictation come out as one line?
By design: line breaks from recognition are joined into one clean line. If you want deliberate line breaks or want to rework the delivered text, describe the change with Voice Patch.
My sign-in expired, or I hit this week's limit.
For an expired session, sign out in Account and continue with Google again to refresh the token. Limits reset weekly — the same page shows your remaining dictations and voice time, and Pricing covers upgrades.
